There are so many high paying jobs to select from in the medical field today. You don't have to go through all of the rigorous training and schooling to be a doctor to earn good pay. Even in the dentist field you can earn a lot of money without having to be a professional dentist. Here is a brief description of working as a dental assistant.

There are many people working to become dentists and run their own dental clinics. Many people aspire to be a dentist because of the high pay, and this is great news for people who like the dental field but don't necessarily want to work as a full-time dentist. All of these new dental clinics mean that they will have to hire these assistants who carry much of the same duties, but won't have to work near as much or worry about all of the qualifications and degrees you have to obtain to become a dentist.

A dental assistant performs much of the same tasks and operations as the dentist. Of course the dentist who runs the clinic will keep a keen eye on the assistants work until he or she is able to handle it all without close supervision. But as a certified assistant you will be expected to develop x-rays, clean the dental instruments, organize patient files and prepping the patient to be seen by the dentist.

Dental assistants may also be required to take care of clerical operations if there is no secretary. This means answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, talking to sales reps, etc.

For the most part, an assistant who works under a dentist will undergo much of the same duties as the dentist. They will be expected to know how to clean teeth and assist in oral teeth work that the dentist has to perform. They may also have to create casts, crowns and take care of hygiene before and after the dentist does his or her work.

Even though you will be performing much of the same daily tasks as the dentist and even earning great pay to boot, the requirements to become a dental assistant are far less than what it takes to become a dentist. Besides a GED or high school diploma, a certified assistant must earn an accreditation from a higher schooling institute. This is usually a one-year program from a school that has a certified dental assistant program.
